Centre for Early Modern Studies
The Centre for Early Modern Studies was established on 1 June 2004 as a joint undertaking of the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Institute of History of the University of South Bohemia with headquarters on the university and academic campus in České Budějovice. In 2021, the centre’s academic section relocated to the newly opened branch (external site) of the Institute of History in České Budějovice. The Centre for Early Modern Studies specializes in disseminating important medieval and early modern written sources in the form of critical editions. The longstanding publishing platform for works guaranteed by the centre’s academic section is Part A of the series Documenta res gestas Bohemicas saeculorum XVI.–XVIII. illustrantia entitled Vita publica and is reserved for the publication of important collections of sources with particular significance in the context of the political, ecclesiastical, legal, and economic history of the Czech lands in the 16th–18th centuries.
